If you run a farm, a haulage yard, a plant-hire fleet or a quarry, you probably buy diesel by the thousand litres and fuel everything from your own tank. That is exactly who Millers Diesel Power EcoMax HD is made for. Instead of treating each tractor, lorry or digger one at a time, you dose the bulk tank once, and every machine you fill from it runs on treated fuel.

The short answer: how much does a 5 L tin treat?

5,000 litres of diesel. The dose is 1 ml per litre (1 part to 1,000 parts fuel), so 1 litre of EcoMax HD treats 1,000 litres. At €150 a tin, that is about 3 cent per litre, or roughly €30 per 1,000-litre delivery.

Who EcoMax HD is for

🚜 Farms and agri contractors

  • Tractors, telehandlers, loaders and harvesters
  • One farm tank fuels the whole yard
  • Fine in green diesel (marked gas oil) tanks as well as road diesel

🚛 Hauliers and HGV fleets

  • Designed for Euro 4, 5 and 6 commercial vehicles
  • Backward compatible with Euro 3 and older trucks
  • Dose the yard tank or each truck’s tank

🏗️ Plant hire, quarries and construction

  • Diggers, dumpers, rollers and other off-highway diesel kit
  • Site tanks and bowsers
  • Anyone who buys diesel in bulk and fuels several machines from one tank

Why treat your diesel?

Injectors and fuel pumps are among the most expensive parts on a diesel engine, and when a whole fleet runs from one tank, every one of them sees the same fuel. EcoMax HD is a fuel treatment and detergent package that does several jobs at once:

  • Adds up to 4 cetane numbers. Cetane is diesel’s ignition quality. More cetane means the fuel lights more readily and burns more completely, which Millers link to more power and better MPG.
  • Cleans injectors and keeps them clean with an enhanced detergency package.
  • Protects the fuel pump. It adds lubricity to fuel-system components, especially the pump.
  • Sharper response at low revs. Better throttle and engine response lower down the rev range.
  • Cleaner combustion. Reduced hydrocarbon, CO₂ and NOx emissions, and it helps emission-control systems.
  • Old and new engines. Built for Euro 4, 5 and 6, and backward compatible with Euro 3 and older vehicles, agricultural equipment, plant and off-highway machinery.
Treat the tank, not the truck. One dose in the bulk tank covers every machine you fill from it. Nobody has to remember to add a bottle to each tractor or lorry, and no tank gets missed.

How much EcoMax HD do I need?

It is easy to remember: 1 ml of EcoMax HD for every litre of diesel, or 1 litre per 1,000 litres. Here is how that works out for common tank and delivery sizes (cost based on €150 for a 5 L tin):

Diesel to treatEcoMax HD neededApprox. cost
250 litres250 ml€7.50
500 litres500 ml€15
1,000 litres1 litre€30
2,500 litres2.5 litres€75
5,000 litresOne full 5 L tin€150

Dosing a single vehicle instead? The same rule applies: a 400-litre truck tank takes 400 ml. A measuring jug marked in millilitres makes it simple.

How to dose a bulk diesel tank

1

Check how much diesel is going in

Use the litres on your delivery docket, or the size of the tank if you are treating what is already in it.

2

Measure 1 ml per litre

That is 1 litre of EcoMax HD for every 1,000 litres of diesel. A 5 L tin covers 5,000 litres.

3

Add it to the bulk tank

Pour it straight into the bulk tank. Adding it just before or as the delivery goes in helps it mix with the incoming fuel.

4

Fuel your machines as normal

Every tractor, truck or digger you fill from that tank now gets treated fuel. There is nothing else to do.

5

Treat every delivery

Dose each new delivery at the same rate so the whole tank stays treated.

Storing EcoMax HD: one tin goes a long way

The date on the tin is the date of manufacture, not a use-by date. Stored at ambient temperature and out of direct sunlight, EcoMax HD stays effective for 24 months from that date. So a 5 L tin is not wasted on a smaller tank: on a 1,000-litre tank it covers five full deliveries, and it keeps. Close the lid tightly between uses.

What EcoMax HD is not

Be clear about what you are buying. EcoMax HD is a cetane, cleaning and lubricity treatment. It is not a biocide for diesel bug and it is not a winter anti-waxing additive. Good tank housekeeping still matters:
  • Drain water from the tank’s drain point regularly. Water settles at the bottom of a tank.
  • Keep the tank reasonably full, especially over winter, to cut down on condensation.
  • Check caps, breathers and seals so rain cannot get in.
  • Do not leave a tank sitting half-empty for months on end.

Cars and vans? Use the 500 ml EcoMax

EcoMax HD is sized and made for heavy-duty and bulk use. For cars and light vans, use Millers Diesel Power EcoMax (500 ml) instead: one bottle treats 500 litres (10 × 50 L tanks) and suits Euro 4 to 6 diesels with or without a DPF or AdBlue. If a car’s injectors are already playing up, our fuel injector cleaner guide and DPF cleaner guide explain the one-off fixes.

Frequently asked questions

How much diesel does a 5 L tin of EcoMax HD treat?

5,000 litres. The dose is 1 ml per litre (1 part to 1,000 parts fuel), so every litre of EcoMax HD treats 1,000 litres of diesel. At €150 a tin that works out at about 3 cent per litre of fuel.

Can I use EcoMax HD in green diesel (marked gas oil)?

Yes. EcoMax HD is made for agricultural equipment, plant and off-highway machinery as well as road vehicles, so you can dose a green diesel tank exactly the same way: 1 ml per litre.

Can I add EcoMax HD straight into my bulk tank?

Yes. Millers designed it to go directly into a bulk fuel tank or into individual vehicle tanks. Dosing the bulk tank means every machine you fill from it gets treated fuel.

Is EcoMax HD suitable for older tractors and trucks?

Yes. It is designed for Euro 4, 5 and 6 commercial vehicles and is backward compatible with Euro 3 and older vehicles, agricultural equipment, plant and off-highway machinery.

How long does a tin of EcoMax HD keep?

The date on the tin is the date of manufacture, not a use-by date. Stored at ambient temperature out of direct sunlight, EcoMax HD stays effective for 24 months from that date.

Does EcoMax HD stop diesel bug or winter waxing?

No. EcoMax HD is a cetane, cleaning and lubricity treatment. It is not a biocide for diesel bug and it is not a winter anti-waxing additive, so good tank housekeeping still matters.

Can I use EcoMax HD in my car or van?

For cars and light vans, use the 500 ml Millers Diesel Power EcoMax instead. One bottle treats 500 litres (10 × 50 L tanks) and suits Euro 4 to 6 diesels with or without a DPF or AdBlue.
